Author Help: Partial X update left me with no X

Hi,
I had a functional Mandriva 2006/64b system (including X).
Upon (successful) booting this morning, I checked and verified there were
available updates. As most of these updates were (new versions of) X
libraries, I thought it would be better to update from a nongraphical
environment. Thus I logged off, opened a different console (Alt-Ctrl-F1)
and from there I ran the following as root:
a. urpmi --update (success)
b. urpmi --auto-select which resulted in the following:
1) 17 packages were available
2) could not install rhthmbox due to unsatisfied library (I opted to
continue)
3) Most of the remaining packages (which were X related) installed
successfully except for the following 2 packages which had errors while
extracting (or something similar):
xorg-x11-server-6.9.0-5.3.20060mdk.x86_64
xorg-x11-6.9.0-5.3.20060mdk.x86_64

In addition it reported that /etc/X11/fs/config has been created
as ...config.new, and that /etc/rc.d/unit.d/xfs has been created as ...
xfs.rpm.new

Afterwars I rebooted to find our I could not enter into X (X reported fatal
server error: could not find default font fixed).

I tried to rerun (from console) urpmi --auto-select with the same results.

Please advise how can I get a functional X again, and, if possible, a
reliable source for above 2 packages.

TIA
