The branch of cryptanalysis that retrieves plaintext by beating up the
decryption keyholder with a rubber hose until he squeals.
Compared to many other attacks, it is quick and effective.
The term is used with ironic intent, to remind the reader that security
is not just in the mathematics of cryptography.

That's when the cryptanalyst obtains the decryption key by tying the
message receiver to a chair and beating him or her up with a rubber
hose until the key is disclosed.
