| I'm trying out Retrospect 6.5 (using their latest driver) on two home
computer systems running Windows XP Home with SP2 installed. I find that it
performs well for a total backup on both computers but for incremental
backups, it frequently (but not always) stalls at the very beginning and
gives the message "Preparing to Execute" and goes no further. At that
point, neither Retrospect nor Windows will shut down properly and I have to
turn off the power to get out of it.
I had been using Backup My PC on both systems and was running complete
backups everytime. However, with that software, I found that the backups
would skip a fair number of files (errors) on many occasions. However, when
this occurred, I could frequently immediately relaunch the software and get
a full backup without any errors. I saw no pattern to this behavior.
I am beginning to think that there is no reliable backup software although I
suppose I could run full backups with Retrospect each time and be no worse
off than I was with Backup My PC.
Any comments on what the problem might be with the incremental backups with
Retrospect 6.5? FYI, a full backup on one machine takes about 4 hours (lots
of files) and about 1 hour on the other.
Thanks for any help.
