| I'm in the process of reviewing some software packages for restoring
laptops. An initial image of the system will be made, then incremental
backups run in the background to a networked samba drive, and then
weekly tape backups will be made and hauled offsite.
Right now, I'm reviewing Symantec Ghost and LiveState. Any comments or
insight on either of the two would be appreciated. The users of the
laptops shouldn't be concerned with the backups being made. i.e. run
them in the background, the more idiot friendly (no offense to them),
the better.
Our biggest problem right now is that employees periodically come and
go. However, we give them the option to purchase the laptop outright.
When they leave though, we backup everything and wipe their drive
completely. Images are for the purpose of making sure not to miss
anything. That and these are laptops, if and when they go home, we've
had times where they'll let their kids play w/them and the machine'll
crap out on them. Relying on them to make backups on their own is less
likely to happen than anything I can think of.
Any other software anyone's found useful, comments are appreciated.
TIA
