Hey boys,

After installing Ghost 9.0 on my W2K SP4 system with .net on my baby,
my HL2 and CS:Source stops letting me play. Anyone else seeing this?

As well, Ghost 9.0 cannot see my 160Gb NTFS C: drive. Does Ghost 9.0
have a limit as to how big a drive it can support? I'm not a fan of
partitioning, so my C: drive is just one big unpartitioned puppy.

Interestingly, Ghost 9.0 does pick up my 60Gb slave drive...

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Probably, your Windows 2000 needs a boost in order to fully support an IDE
disk that has a capacity that exceeds 128 GB.
What size reports the LDM (Windows' Disk Manager)?

If it limits to 128 GB, please, visit this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305098/EN-US/

Thanks for replying!

According to my Disk Manager, I have two volumes (which is correct)
and it lists them as follows;

Volume C: 149.05 GB NTFS Healthy (System)
Slave S: 55.91 GB NTFS Healthy

Incidentally, Windows Explorer also shows both my C: drive and S:
drive. The C: drive properties showing 149 Gb (55.5 used/93.5 free)
and the S: drive properties showing 55.9 Gb (52.2 used/ 3.62 free).

So it appears my OS can "see" the big drive.

Now that you are using Norton Ghost 9.0, why don't you run PartInNT.exe for
a change and post the results here...
Note: PartInNT.exe is a utility that displays the partition table contents
of the actual drive in plain text, and it can be found in the UTILITY folder
of your Norton Ghost 9.0 installation OR in the SUPPORT folder on the Norton
Ghost 9.0 CD.

So I ran that PartInNT utility and it generated my partition info
report. The PartInNT report also shows both my C: drive and S: drive.
I had the report posted (temporarily) to
http://www.realranker.com/PartitionInfo.txt for your perusal.

Disk 1 has 19456 cylinders, Windows only sees 16709 (!!), cannot detect the
end of the C: partition, so error #109 is likely to be produced!
So, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305098/EN-US/ and apply the
registry fix...done!

*STUNNED!* I am absolutely stunned that it actually worked! HA!

Mr. Kimmer, you sir are a genius. If you're interested, I've posted
my new partition info report at
http://www.realranker.com/PartitionInfo2.txt .

Hooray, now I'm off to image away with my new *working* Norton Ghost
9.0!

Done indeed!

I hope your aren't planning on "imaging away" to DVD! Ghost 9.0 works
flawlessly when imaging to another drive, but refuses to write to DVD. I have
been in contact with "Anand" at Symantec on and off for about 2 weeks in an
attempt to solve this. Following all suggestions, I still can't write to
DVD-RW. Incidentally, TDK DVD-RW's are recommended by Nu-Global for my burner.

Anybody else wanna jump in on this? Perhaps the genius of Mr. Kimmer could waft
my way as well!

Lemme give it a try!
You write that you can't write to DVD-RW...what do you mean by this?
1. Is your DVD writer listed as a tested Gear DVD writer
(URL: http://www.gearsoftware.com/Support/recorders/index.cfm)
2. What's the brand and model number of the DVD writer?
3. Is the firmware up to date?
4. Is the target option CD-R/DVD-R option displayed in the wizard?
5. If it is and you attempt to write the image, what's the error message?

Goes "through the motions" yet the progress bar never moves past one segment.
[vbcol=seagreen]

Yes
[vbcol=seagreen]

It's a NU Universe, or NU- DVDRW DDW-082
[vbcol=seagreen]

Let me explain. I had B377 firmware installed, which for some reason is NOT
shown on the website anymore. I was having this problem at that time, and in
frustration, went back to B375. That is the "latest" shown at this time.
Apparently, (after a Google search) some folks were having problems with the
B377 installer and XP SP2, but I had no problem.
[vbcol=seagreen]

Options are: Local File, Network File and CD-RW / DVD-RW. I can and do backup
my entire C:\ drive to my "Backup" partition on my second hard drive. Ghost 9.0
works flawlessly then.
[vbcol=seagreen]

Ok, this might be a little long. the error message will follow. I tried to
backup an 18GB partition with 559MB used. Ghost 9.0 goes to the "burning"
screen with the drive icon at the top with the 0101010's transferring to the
folder icon.

-Pictures (H;\) to F;\H_Drive.v2i
-Progress bar with ONE segment showing
-"Creating backup image file"
-"Creating new image file"

Red LED is blinking on the drive, which indicates it is burning. After 32
minutes (this time) the progress bar has NOT progressed and the disc is ejected.
The error message displayed is:
The media is not ready, it may be write protected.
Make sure the media is inserted into drive F: and is formatted and writable.

I have left it before and came back 12 hours later. The disc has been ejected,
the error message displayed and the "time" meter etc. still churning away.

I'd be happy to provide any other info that you might think useful. I should
mention that I have full-erased, quick erased etc. with Nero 6.0, both from the
front of the program and from the Test Drive Extra, if that makes any
difference. I can tell you that I am using TDK DVD-RW's, 2X compatible, single
sided. These are recommended by NU, where many others are not. I tried Memorex
+/- RW's and Maxell -RW's, before I found out that they are NOT recommended by
NU.

I can burn data to the TDK's using Nero, or JPG movies etc. using ANY of my
movie making software and all discs burn and are readable on this computer as
well as my DVD player. I have a few "suggestions" from Symantec's "Anand" and
have implemented all of them. Only one thing didn't work as suggested. The
following is from Anand, but the files shown are NOT on my computer anywhere.
Lord only knows what actually WAS installed!
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
2. Verify that you are using the latest CD/DVD-R/RW driver set.

The latest drivers are in the driver installer that is available on our public
FTP site:
[vbcol=seagreen]
> WEB URL:

ftp://downloads.gearsoftware.com/up..._Installer.exe.

When run the installer, the following are the latest Driver files copied to your
system:

-GEARAspiSys.sys
-GEARAspiWDM.sys
-GEARInst.dll

After installing the above mentioned configuration and driver files, please
check if you are able to burn the Ghost Backup Image file to your CD/DVD-R/RW
drive.

Zip, zero, ziltch.

Thanks very much Michael, I appreciate anything you can do to help.

Have you installed third party software that actually use packet writing
(e.g. InCD, DirectCD, Drag 'n' Drop, Pinnacle Systems stuff, Roxio,
VirtualCD, etc, that sorta thing)? These utilities actually use their own
(modified version) UDF (file system for CD's/DVD's). If you have you should
NOT use them...!

I still am inclined to assume that software (resident) is likely to
cause this behavior...
If you agree you may want to paste a dump of the Autorun section of
MSCONFIG (all Windows releases except for Windows 2000 Prof.)
If you are running Windows 2000 Prof. you can paste a dump of the
following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wi

Click on "Start"
Select "Run"
Enter the command

msconfig

and click on the [ OK ] button
In msconfig open the last tab "Autorun"

Tell me here what modules are automatically loaded when Windows boots up...

Unfortunately, I can no longer retrieve the registry info anymore, but,
assuming you are running XP I would assume that Ghost 9.0 fails on accessing
exclusively your burner due to a persistent interference of the COM service
for IMAPI mapped CD/DVD burners?

Does MSCONFIG > Tab: Services show an active COM Service for IMAPI compliant
DVD burners? If it is loaded and running please, turn it off in the services
console (Start > run: services.msc [Enter])...
