I was hoping that someone could help me find a program that will allow
me to overcome the following:

I dual boot Windows XP and Xandros Linux using PowerQuest's Boot Magic
8.x. I have:

C partition Windows XP NTFS
D partition data NTFS
E partition data-multimedia NTFS
F partition PowerQuesst boot FAT32
/boot Linux Ext2
/swap Linux swap
/home Linux ReiserFS
/ Linux ReiserFS

I want to be able to backup and restore the Windows XP partition
periodically. This is because I tend to install and uninstall a lot of
programs in Windows. So about 2 or three times a year I will reinstall
Windows to the C partition. This was not a problem on my desktop with
Windows 2000, because I would just reformat and reinstall to the C
partition. But now I have put the above on my laptop which
only came with one of those 'recovery disks' which reformats the entire
hard drive and reinstalls the factory installed system. Additionally, I
now have important data on my laptop which I need to protect.

My concern is with Windows XP not liking my 'frequent' reinstalls, so I
thought a backup of the entire partition would overcome this problem.

I also need a program that can backup files with large names like,
"PCWorld_com - Upgrade Guide Keep It Powered, Keep It Cool". The
Windows Backup program was having trouble with these as well as when I
just doing a straight copy.

My current backups are accomplished by plugging a USB Western Digital
external hard drive into a USB port and copying files over.

What I want is a program that will allow me to backup and restore my C
Partition, as well as the the data on D,E, and /home partitions. I want
to be able to do daily backups of my data that changes frequently, as
well as a weekly backups of data on the D,E, and /home partitions. Also
it is important that the program remember the daily and weekly backups.
I mention this because I have tried programs in the past that would
not remember your backups.

Thank you in advance.

Just extract Win XP from the CD and give correct drivers from Internet.

Windows backup program was not intended to backup OS at all, because it
can't handle
open files. It just for data backup.
You can use Dantz Retrospect backup program.
