| if i backup a drive to another hard disk first, setting a maximum file size
of about the size that could fit onto a dvd, and then manually burn all
these files to dvd with a seperate program, will the end result be the same
as if i used drive image to write to the dvds?

| Yes, and it has other advantages. Before I had a DVD-recorder I had to
split my images over several CDs. Burning directly to CD, if one CD was bad,
I had to start the whole thing over. Writing the image to another HD first,
if one CD proves to be bad, only that CD need be done over.
