I have an HP 7955 computer that the primary hard drive has died. HP said it
would die and they were correct. I am going to replace it with an 80GB or
120GB drive and have XP Pro installed on it. The old drive had XP Home and
a bunch other programs installed by HP which I never used so not having
these programs will not cause any heart ache, plus HP's software seem to be
very noisy as McAfee's Firewall program taught me.

I also had a secondary drive with Windows Server on it and was able to start
up with XP Home or Server when the primary was working. I assume it is
still working.

When I have the new drive installed I would like to copy some of the data
files on the old primary to the new one. Question is which is the best way
to do that?

1. Take the current secondary out, put in the old primary and copy away,
them remove it when I am finished? Or is there a better way, or is there
something I am missing?

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

If the drive has died, how are you planning on accessing the files?

If the drive is truly dead, then you will either have to get the files off
of backup media, or pay a recovery service such as www.ontrack.com to
recover the files.
