I have a 2Gb drive with a corrupt MBR - the disk reads as unformatted. It
contained some important files which were a backup and which are now
unreadable.

Does anyone know of anyone or any software I could use to retrieve these
files.

Thanks in advance

marcus

Safest thing to do is:

1. Immediately stop using the drive in any way, i.e., remove the logical
drive from the system.
2. If the drive is still under warranty, contact the drive manufacturer to
find out who are the AUTHORIZED data recovery services. Drive manufacturer's
web site likely has a list of AUTHORIZED data recovery services at the
drive.
3. Contact an AUTHORIZED data recovery service. Usually, www.ontrack.com
will be authorized, try them.

It will cost at least a few hundred dollars to retrieve the files, but if
the files are important, that's the safest way to go.
