I have experimenting with Norton Ghost 2001 which came with an old Norton
System Works package. The instructions say that it only works under DOS.
Before it starts the screen goes dark for a few seconds. Does this indicate
that the computer has been switched to DOS?

The reason I ask is that when I've used Drive Image you first get a message
that the switch is going to be made.

I use to have Ghost 2001 and it was undependable and "buggy" to say
the least. A friend mentioned he had a hard drive crash and restored
it with Ghost 2003.

I am now using Ghost 2003 and I have been very happy with with it. My
hard drive crashed about 2 months ago and I restored my computer with
2003...no problems at all. All (4) of partitions were restored. BTY, I
am using XP.

I might add that I do all my backups using the Ghost floppy which
comes up in the DOS enviroment. I NEVER try to back up from Windows.

I know you will get other suggestions but to reitterate, I had big
time problems with Ghost 2001...none with Ghost 2003. Also, I only do
complete backups of partitions and my disk to an external harddrive.
That's my way and it works for me. My son uses Acronis and he is happy
with that. I guess we each have our own preferences...my only problems
have been with Ghost 2001, which I wouldn't count on at all.

Good luck.
