| Are you using the Windows Gui?
Do you want to take a manuel backup via the administrator GUI or
directly on the client?
Do you get any errors?

Thank you, I find out (in documentation) that manuel backups can make only
through
administrator GUI (when sheduling is not activated).....so, this is not big
problem.
But now I have one more important problem - I have 3GB (without paging file)
files in my
win2003 system partition (ntfs) and NetBackup only backs up 2GB. I find out
that 1GB was missed in system32 directory in backed-up file, random
locations in subfolders. I tried both VSS and VSP and they both seems to
work normally. Also error message occured while backup -
something......"cant disconnect indexing....some files may not backed up..."
(dont remember exactly). Seems that Open-File-Backup feature cant do its
work correctly. Its very strange.
I am new in Veritas NetBackup product world. Before I was using Dantz
Retrospect with win2000, fat32, in other server, but never find such
catastrophic error. Please help!

| I have never seen that error, so I can't say what the problem is.
But NBU doesn't have a limit on 2 GB. Our biggest windows 2003 servers
is around 500 GB
What error code do you receive?
Being new to NBU can be difficult. That product can do almost anything
so it takes a little time to get used to it.
What version are you running?

What version are you running? (NBU 5.1 or NBU 5.1 Enterprise)
And are you running MP1?

Unfortunately I dont remember, I uninstalled it thanks to this error. If I
remember.....there wasnt error code,
it just says that "some files may not backed up". This was enough for me -
it means that NetBackup simple
was unable to backup files, too serious error for me to trust it anymore.
Dantz Retrospect never give such
error.

Regardless for me Dantz Retrospect can do mutch more than NetBackup - it
compares not only file attributes,
but also size and data and not only "what is newer" but all differences.
Also Retrospect can restore exact snapshot (compared with NetBackup "true
image restore") without requirements to previously deleting all files
from partition. Also strange in NetBackup is that it dont allow to see what
files is inside backup-set.
Only very good option in NetBackup for me is synthetic-backup, ability to
reconstruct new backup-set.
Or maybe I simple dont understand to use it correctly.
