Author Nero BackItUp license?

I got a copy of Nero 6 OEM with my DVD-ROM. I installed it and have been
using Nero BackItUp to back up my system for several months. I did some
test recovers and it worked fine.

Well today my hard drive died. I bought a new drive, got Win2000 installed
again, and went to recover my backups -- but BackItUp won't run!! It says
"The license you are currently using does not allow you to start this
application."

EEEEEEEKKK !!!

As far as I know, I installed it the same way I did before. I don't know
why the license is different this time. The other Nero apps seem to work
OK -- at least some of them, such as Express, Showtime, etc. Others, such
as Wave Editor, Recode, etc, give the license error.

Any guesses?

I've determined that the BackItUp files are just individually zipped, so I
can restore a few files if necessary. But unzipping each file individually
will be a pain, as will restoring the filenames on anything longer than 8.3
chars. I'd much rather get BackItUp working so I can restore them
properly.

Thanks!
Gary

I dislike companies that will lowball you that way so as to trick you into
upgrading to their full package. But the problem gets even deeper if you
have more than one drive with different brand packages. Sometimes they won't
play together, nicely. And I've read reports that some will not completely
uninstall allowing you to use another's package. ARGH! Some claimed only a
format worked for them.
But if still possible, I'd try to roll back to the previous version where
backup was working, and see if it works with that burner. If not, sometimes
an updated burner list is available that will allow your previous version to
work with the new drive. Last ditch would be to edit the burner list
manually if possible.
