Several months ago I backed up my C Drive (OS and apps) to my G Drive
(data, backups, etc) with Acronis 8. I immediately verified the file and
it confirmed OK. Yesterday I wanted to restore my C Drive from the
backup copy. I first ran a verify again and all was OK. But when I
started the restore, I got message "Corrupted File". This screwed up my
C Drive on the reformat so that my OS wouldn't load and I couldn't boot.

Fortunately, I had another C Drive backup on a removable HD (I am
paranoid) and was able to get back into business.

Any ideas??? I am now afraid to use Acronis as a backup tool.

Thanks!
Harry

Is it a Acronis TI8 backup? If yes, it works.

It may probably what the error told you: "corrupted file".

I have use Acronis TI8 for backup / restore many many times without
problem.

If you are paranoid, try the following steps.

1. back up your C drive to an image on your G: partition.
2. restore the image to an empty partition other than your C: parition.
If OK, the image has no problem.

I hope you have a good sleep tonight

Harry--

Thanks for your speedy response. Pardon my ignorance, but what is "TI8
Backup"? I simply used the wizard and followed the steps (in DOS BTW).
What I don't understand is why Acronis confirms the backup as OK but
that when I try to restore, I get message "corrupted file" (which, of
course, screws up my C Drive).

Your idea of backing up to another drive as a test is a good one. THen I
can "clone" back to the C Drive.

Again, please tell me what a TI8 Backup is. Thanks.

TI8 Backup = Backup by Acronis TrueImage version 8.
Acronis has tons of products; so I prefer using TI8 to denote TrueImage 8.

Nevermind what TI8 says.
I restore the backup image; if it restores OK, the backup is OK.

I usually don't try to restore images to check their integrity.
I keep two generations of backups, say, backup-from-10days-ago,
and backup-from-20days-ago. If the latest one goes wrong, I will
use the previous one.

My first-generation backups never fail me. So, I don't need to go
through the previous generation copies.
