I am looking for a software to be able to dump the entire content of 20G
partition from my computer to an external hard drive. I am not a
computer pro, so the simpler is the better for me. I am getting 250G
external drive so I do not need compression. Just simple and reliable.
I use Win XP SP2. The external drive is connected through USB 2 port.
I need to be able to use the saved partition for backup and to transfer
it to another computer of different configuration, also running Win SP.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

BTW, it's hard to find good review of Ghost 10. Anyone has experience?

TIA

What is the content of this 20GB partition? If it contains the XP
operating system, then transferring it to another system with
different configuration won't work. The operating system becomes
customized to the system hardware it's installed on.

On the other hand, if the partition contains only data, then any
backup S/W, including NTBackup in XP, will do the job.

"I am looking for a software to be able to dump the entire content of 20G

Hi,

I have always had excellent experience with copy software provided by the
hard drive's manufacturer. The only one I remember is one from Maxtor called
Maxblast. I have successfully used this type of software, which came with a
new hard drive, from Seagate and Western Digital as well.

I was just browsing Seagate's site and there is a DiscWizard Starter
Edition. I don't think that this utility will just reformat your hard drive
without verifying that this is what you want to do. You should be able to
run Disc Wizard and check to see if there is a choice to copy existing
partition to another one. If not then abort or remove the diskette and
reboot.

These utilities are vendor specific so you need to get one from the
manufacturer as for example Maxblast will not work if it will not detect
Maxtor drive in the system. Unless that has changed...

Try SoftSwift's Enhanced Windows Backup - www.softswift.com
This is a freeware extension to the built-in NTBackup software that comes
with windows and makes it work properly.
