Acronis 8 can't see folders on NAS drive
|
|
|
| I am attempting to use the Acronis 8 bootable CD to restore the image of my
C drive onto a new hard drive. The image is stored on an NAS Drive on my
little home network. In the "restore image wizard" I got to the point where
I must point to the image. I can browse to the name of the drive but not
see the folders within it. I can browse folders on other PCs on the
network, but not the NAS drive - therefore I cannot reach the image! I can
browse the NAS drive from other PCs, so it seems that it is working fine.
Looking at the wizard, there is no "+" next to the storage drive name - no
folders. Looking at the storage drive with windows explorer on another PC,
the "+" is there.
Any ideas here? Have I left anything out? Thanks...

|
| How about this... if I cannot resolve this in another way, can I try to do
the whole thing from a "remote" PC, that is, direct Acronis to use the image
on the NAS drive to restore the image on the new drive in PC "A", all from
PC "B"?
BTW, I tried typing the full path of the image archive into the "File name"
box in the wizard on the PC with the new drive, but it was a no-go.

| Oh, it seems I cannot do that... I walked through the wizard on PC "B". It
seems I cannot choose what PC to direct the image to, only choose the
partition on the local machine. Oh well.
Now what?

Seems the hard way to me. Why not just clone C: to the new drive,
switch off, then make the new drive the primary ?.

| OK, this is getting weirder my be the minute. I tried playing with the
"check image" tool, and in addition to the usual place, the NAS drive turned
up under a second, un-named workgroup. There is no such workgroup on my
network. It appeared not with it's name, but with it's local IP address, as
assigned by the router. I was able to see the folders and the disk image
there. I could not get the image to verify using the verify wizard; I
assume it is trying to compare itself with the old dead hard drive. I just
got the "Commit Pending Operations" window, which just sits there. But none
of that is important - getting the NAS drive folder, and the image, to be
seen by the restore wizard is.
Sorry to drag you all through this process in four posts.

Have you got two drives in the sad computer ?.
If so try to move your image to the `good` drive. Then install the new drive
as a master, and image back to it. Can`t think what else to offer.

| Thanks. I considered that, however the image is bigger than any working
drive I currently own. I think I am gonna have to go buy another one of
those dirt cheap 200GB drives at Staples, just to have a place to put the
image.
Another oddity. When browsing the drives on my network with the dialog that
searches for the image, I see that one other drive, on another PC, shows up
with NO plus sign next to it. I also note that the dialog does not display
info for it (total size, space available, etc) like it does for the other
drives. Hmmmm..... They ALL show up as "shared network drives" however, as
they should, as sharing is enabled for all of them. I hope that the spare
200GB that I may run out and get shows up as actually having folders!

Hi Steve just been here
http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATISWin/
and it says NAS is supported. Perhaps a bit more digging is required ?.
