Acronis 8 backup question

| Do I have this right?
When you do an incremental backup of a partition, the incremental backup
takes the form of a new (obviously smaller) file of the same name as the
original + a number.
I assume if you have to do a restore, the program incorporates the
incremental data into the original complete backup?
Should (would) you delete the incremental files 2,3,4 and 5 if you have
an incremental file #6 or are these earlier files meant to serve as kind
of "restore" points.

Yes, that's correct.

Yes it does.

I *THINK* you can delete them if you wish. The incremental backups seem
to be based on the first backup in the series. That's how I read the
documentation, anyway, but I haven't tried it.
You may find it useful to keep each of the incremental files so that you
can go back to a period in time between your first and last backup of
the sequence. I create a new backup every Sunday evening and the rest
of the week only make incremental backups.

| No you need all the incrementals.
Differental backups do not.
Incremental contain only files changed since
the last incremental.
Differental backups contains files changed
since the last full.
Acronis will not do differentals.

After reading Richard's message, (Message-ID:
<d7734$4233262b$cf4e7680$27939@BEALENET.COM> ) I tested it.
You *DO* need to keep incremental files 2, 3, 4 and 5 if you want to
access file 6.
True Image's documentation says: "An incremental image contains data
only from parts that changed after the previous complete or incremental
image was created, so it's usually smaller and takes less time to
create."
I've no idea why I was mistaken. I may have been thinking of a one of
the other products I've used.
