I am trying to use Drive Image 7.03 to copy my 60 GB hard drive to a
new 120 GB hard drive. I am using Windows XP HE SP2 on the old drive.
I am using the copy drive wizard. Drive Image indicates that the
copy of the image from one drive to another has been successful.
However, when I hook up the new hard drive, the boot-up process
freezes at the Windows welcome screen and will not proceed any
further. Any ideas as to what to do? I also have Drive Image 2002
but I'm not sure if it is compatible with XP HE SP2. Thanks

This sounds like a weird solution, but it does work!
Unlock the boot process by running an FDISK /MBR from a bootable floppy.
You can download a Windows 98 SE bootable floppy disk image from this
location:

Run the file after inserting a blank writeable floppy disk in your floppy
disk drive...

If you don't have a floppy drive just create a bootable CD based on a
Windows 98 floppy disk image

Boot from it and run:

fdisk /mbr

I have a Win 98 boot floppy, however, when I try to run it there is no
way of identifying the hard disk drive to run Fdisk on. I have drive A
available (the floppy drive) when booting from the floppy, but no other
drive is recognized.

When I formatted the new hard drive, I had to allocate the drive letter
"I" to it. When the new hard drive is connected with the image of the
old drive, the BIOS identifies the size of the drive on the primary
master, but doesn't have a drive letter for it. Can that be done
through the BIOS setup routine? Thanks for the help

I tried to run Fdisk anyway on drive A as you indicated. Strangely
enough, it worked. I now boots up from the new hard drive. Don't
understand it at all, but all is now up and running. Go figure!!!
Thanks for the tip. How did you ever come about discovering this
trick? Thanks again for your help.
