The problem started two days ago with backup failing to "Error Code 1065: specified database does not exist."

Through a series of trials, errors, repairs, recoveries, uninstall and reinstall the Backup software will now not even reinstall on the 2003 server.

I have been through Veritas tech support and a request to Microsoft for assistance, the server itself and other software on the system are unaffected. But I need to know if anyone else may have experiences something similar and a possible solution.

Here are a few steps I have already tried:

MDAC version 2.8

JRE passed

Registry entries checked

Folders and files checked

Sqlsvr32.dll file verified

Ran the component checker and BE utilities

Ran the msizap utility

Checked the registry to make sure supersocketnetlib was created

Tried manual install on msde

Obtained a newer release of msde and retried all previous steps.

Updated JRE also just in case

Any help is appreciated. Installation log is attached.
