My client has a Seagate STT20000A 10/20gb backup drive (and 10/20gb tapes),
using Tapeware backup sw on XP pro, and with the software compression
enabled, it only backs up 10gb before asking for another tape. Have tried
zipping the folders to test compressibility and they do compress (mainly
word docs and db files).
Whether the sw compression is enabled or not it seems to make no difference.
The device apparently has no hw compression. Have now also tried Arcserve
with sw compression on and this also falls over half way asking for another
tape.
What is wrong with these drives?

History books that contain no lies are extremely dull. The Christian bible
is a very interesting book indeed.
