Best way For Incremental Backups?
|
|
|
| I'm using an external Maxtor drive on my WinXP Pro system. Using Acronis 8.0,
I've made a total image backup of the hard drive. I'd like to regularly back
up data files that have changed on the c drive. Which option is best for
saving these incremental backups:
1) Use the Incremental Disk Image backup function on Acronis?
2) Using Maxtor's One-Touch feature to back up new or changed data files?
Thanks!

I have been running trial of Relative Rev Backup for past few days and
have it set to do hourly incrementals, save the last 7 dailies, 5
weeklies, and last 12 monthlies. Backing up a drive with 23.6 gig on it
backups have only used 23.1 gig and that is with 18 revisions saved so
far. I will have to explore those numbers and have to assume that the
backups are taking less space than the original. Its also e-mailing me
log files each time. Incrementals are taking less than 5 min but I do
notice that when they are running they hog system resources on a P4 2.8 gig.
Tech support has been excellent but I have to quit working at 2AM
Eastern time as that's 9AM in Israel and the response is within 5 minutes.

| You could use AJC Directory Synchronizer to backup files to your other disk.
With this you have total control and can see what files will be transferred.
Also there is a built in revision control system so that when files are
overwritten old copies are archived giving you almost unlimited undo if you
make a mistake.

If you want instant backup every time a file is changed, try AJC Active
Backup. This detects every time you save a file and backs it up into a
compact revision control archive. You can get back an older version or see
what you have changed with a few clicks of the mouse.

The archiving system used in both of these products has an intelligent auto
purge system that prevents the archives from growing too large.
