When any backup is attempted, either from a "backup job," or manually, I'm
getting the error shown below. When I search on the error message number in
the Symantec error message info base, it only says to reinstall the
software, which I do. It'll work OK several times, then I'll get the same
error message again. When I get the error message, basically nothing
happens, and the backup process never starts. It's a legit Ghost, with
serial number entered. Using Windows XP Home. Here's what I get:

Backup of C:\ did not complete successfully.
The virtual volume imaging driver (pqv2i) is not present on the system.
EC8F000C: Cannot find the virtual image driver. Error 00000002
The system cannot find the specified file specified.
Unspecified error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I searched this newsgroup and no one
else seems to have the problem. Thanks!

Error is caused due to Ghost 9.0 not being able to find the kernel mode
driver PQV2I.SYS.
Possible cause is a 3rd party program or tool that loads a different kernel
at system start via the BOOT.INI file. Check for the presence of an
additional load option named /KERNEL= in the [operating systems] section of
the BOOT.INI file.

Notorious error candidate is StyleXP

If the /KERNEL= command is indeed present make a copy of your BOOT.INI file,
remove its read only attribute of the original BOOT.INI file, delete the
/KERNEL=<kernel>.EXE part in the specific line, save the modified BOOT.INI
file and reboot your system.
