Here is the scenario:

equipment: File Server (P3 something or other) -> Raid Storage Server
(SCSI) & Adic Scalar 24 Tape Backup (SCSI)

The problem I ran into was the server itself died, I'm not sure what
went wrong, but whoever built this system is no longer in service at
the company. We lost a couple SCSI drives on the internal RAID, and
the genius who designed this ptu the OS on the SCSI RAID.

Now, I have several 100s of Gig worht of Data backup up on the Raid
Storage Server. This unit is nothign more than a scsi raid rack of
hard drives attached via SCSI to the server itself.

Each day the Tape server backs up all the data on the system to Tape.

The problem is, someone didn't save their data to the Raid server where
its easily retrievable after the server broke Instead they saved to
the OS drive which only gets backed up to tape periodically.

Now I need to recover the data off old tapes with this tape device
attached to another computer. The difficulty I'm having is getting the
new comptuer to recognize the Adic Scalar 24, and secondly there are no
instructions with Veritas backup Exec on how to recover data without
the catalog.. which of course was saved on the C: of the dead server

any tips?

You don't say what version of BE, but most every backup software should have
an option to rebuild a catalog from the backup media. Indeed, one should not
use a backup product that does not have this capability.

Check the built-in HELP.

Backup Exec, when it is installed, will install tape drivers for supported
tape devices. If it was working on the original server, then it should work
on the new server. You may need to rerun the tape device installation wizard
to get it to update any drivers for new devices. Look for an option under
tools menu to do this. I can't remember the name, but I believe there is an
option there to rerun the tape device install wizard. If there isn't. Then
you can download the latest supported drivers from the support site and that
will do the same thing for you.

Once you have detected the tape drive and BE recognizes it, inventory the
tapes (Right click on the tape device and choose inventory). Then choose the
tape you want to restore from and then choose catalog media (Right click on
the media name and choose Catalog).

Once this has been done, then choose "Restore" from the buttons on top and
you should see a catalog of data backed up from the server on that tape.

When you need more help, you can view the entire administrators guide on the
system(if its installed) by going to the help menu.

Hope this helps.
