Author Software to use with HP Ultrium auto loader

I have two servers, one with an HP Ultrium 1x8 autoloader (a Windows
server), and the other with an HP Ultrium stand-alone tape drive (a
Linux server). Currently I am using the HP Data Protector Express
software that came with the drives. On the stand-alone drive, the
software has been working reasonably well, though I find I have to fight
with the scheduling options to get it to run on the schedule that I want.

On the auto-loader, I am having a nightmare getting it to rotate tapes
on schedule, and so backups have been failing. I suspect that part of
the problem is using the software that ships free with the drives.

Is anyone successfully using HP DPE with the Ultrium Auto-loader? Or,
does anyone have recommendations on software that they are using
successfully with this hardware?

I need to do some custom rotation schedules because of location of one
of the servers, and how frequently I can get to them. And I would
prefer a common software application to use for both the Windows and
Linux servers.
