Backing Up C:|Windows directory in Windows XP Pro

| I bought a Maxtor Onetouch III external disk for use in backup, but it seems
to NOT to support backing up the C:|Windows directory. While I could
re-install XP using CDs that came with my computer I would not want to have
to download all the updates again.
I am considering buying a backup program such as Retrospect 7.5. Will it
allow me to backup the c:\Windows directory? If not are there any other
suggestions? Thanks.

I use Norton Ghost 9 to make whole Images of my C drive and back them up directly to an external hard
drive. Full or incremental Images can be scheduled daily, weekly, monthly. I have been using this method for a
couple of years now. I have used the images to do full restores numerous times after running into problems
after installing software or windows updates or being infected with a virus or trojan. You can even restore
individual files from these backups. Don't just do backups do Images on a regular basis. Norton Ghost 10 is
now available but I've yet to purchase a copy.
