Have the SCSI version of the internal 8 gig drive.
Do I have to get the HP Software for the drivers,
or are they available somewhere - not driverguide.com -
those aren't the correct drivers.

Is the T4000s a Travan-4 drive?

You need to verify whether your SCSI card supports that drive
And you need backup software that will support that drive.

I have the software, but Windows 2000, which
recognizes the SCSI card, doesn't yet recognize
the travan tape drive.
The tape is accessed every time the system boots.

It is the SCSI card that has to recognize the tape drive.
Use the SCSI diagnostics installed with the SCSI card to see if the device
is detected.
I would expect all the SCSI devices to be listed on screen during the boot.
