The numbers don't prove that ONLY whole house systems you identify are
adequate. First of all Lightening can generate 1 to 10 billion joules
of electricity. So the whole house spec you cited is inadequate to
sustain a direct strike. So your whole house unit is only capable of
sustaining an indirect strike, just like the plug-in surge protectors.

Let's take your 1000 joules number as meaningful. Then take a look at
this cheap plug in model that boasts 2655 joule protection & a
Lifetime $250,000 connected equipment warranty

Those numbers do not prove what you want them to.
