I just purchased an external hard drive (160 GB) with the express
desire to make my backups to it. I have been using Ghost 2003 for
making internal backups with no problems whatsoever.. Ghost gives me
the following errors and will not backup to my USB hard drive:

"Bad Blocks Encountered"

"Read sector failure"

I then used True Acronis 9 and it backed up to the USB hard drive with
no problems. Is Ghost 2003 capable of making backups to a USB hard
drive????? Any help appreciated.

Have you run LiveUpdate? And did you specify USB 1.1 or 2.0 in the Advanced
Settings?

Personally, I have found Ghost 2003 to be the very best backup solution
available. I tried the Acronis product a couple of years ago and it was
nowhere near as stable and reliable as 2003. For that matter, neither are
the subsequent releases of Ghost.

I have loved Ghost 2003. I have run "Live Update" many times. Where do
I find and check my USB Settings??? Thanks for your help. My computer
has USB 2.0

I have Ghost 9.0 and find it VERY reliable. It backs up to a USB drive.

I had the same problem. I could never get Ghost 2003 to work
with USB 2 drives. It would work at USB 1.1 speed but that
is too slow to be useable for backup. Acronis TI works
well with USB drives.

Under Options scroll down to the External Storage Drive Options and select
the option that fits your computer. Only select USB 2.0 if _all_ of your
devices are 2.0. If you have _any_ 1.1 devices you have to select 1.1, even
if your USB drive is 2.0. That's probably why Maroon can only get 1.1 speed.
