| The problem with running Groupshield on Exchange 5.5 is that McAfee
Groupshield appears to be scanning every bit of data that flows out to
my backup server. Yes, I know Exchange 5.5 is old, but that's not the
point. Here's the situation:
Windows file server running Windows Server 2003 std. is my backup
server using a Sony Robotic Tape Library.
Exchange server is a Windows 2000 server Running Exchange 5.5 protected
by McAfee Groupshield.
With GroupShield running, I can backup about 37 MB/Minute from the
Exchange server. Without Groupshield running, I can backup over 200
MB/Minute.
So, I found the suggestion to issue a net stop command on both the
Groupshield service and the SMTP server on the Exchange server before
the backup begins and then a net start on those services when it is
finished. Here's the deal... I back up 6 servers in that one backup
job and from what I can see Backup Exec only issues pre/post commands
before and after entire jobs... not on specific servers within a job.
So, question 1 is "Is there a way to issue the net stop / start
commands on 1 given server within a backup job right before that server
gets backed up and right after the job is done with that server?"
If not, then question 2 would be "If I create a separate job with
pre/post commands for the Exchange server, is there a way to call a
second job when the Exchange backup is done so the rest of the servers
will get backed up?"
For those who have done #2, does it pose any kind of a problem having
more than one backup job on a single tape? I've only ever put 1 job on
a backup tape. It seems to me that putting more than one on a tape
might complicate restore jobs, but I really have no idea.
Thanks for any info you can give.
Max.
