NovaBackup has fatal conflicts with both Nero's InCD and NTi's File
CD packet writing systems.

Adaptek/Sonic/Roxio's EZ/DCD non-standard UDF definition packet
writing conflicts with every other.

StompSoft, which used to offer NovaBack and is said to have had a
Sonic connection, is now pushing PC Backup. Presumably this has the
tainted Roxio system.

Acronis also has a packet writing system. Does its conflict with
InCD, FileCD or others? Or do these others conflict with it?

In addition NovaBack, Nero and others use variant ASPI layers that
apparently conflict. I'm told the answer to all these is ForcAspi
1.71. True?

Getting very tired of software not including these conflicts in
their system requirements. And in having them at all. If these
programs are claimed to work in W2K, then they should work together.
One or more are doing something illegal. These should be
identified, declared malware and put on the Anti-Virus and Anti-Spy
definition lists until the whole field comes up with a rock-solid,
transparent and uniform packet and file writing system.

Is the topic of no interest to anyone?

On clicking the Itunes icon:

burning CDs and

CD burning software.
>Please reinstall Itunes.

Of all the packet writers I must cite NTi as the most candid and
upfront about the
problems of conflicts in the field that are not their fault. It's a
battleground staged
in our pcs and at our expense.

This is from NTI's FAQs:
-------------------------------

I just install the upgrade to 5.1.17 (or higher) and now none of my
drives are
detected by your software, why?

Answer:
It may be do to the Adaptec writing plug-in with Media Player. We
have found
that the Media Player plug-in takes control of the ASPI layers that
other
programs install and disables them. This causes the program to not
detect the
CDRW drive. If you do have the Adaptec Plug-in you can correct the
problem by
uninstalling our software and the Plug-in. You can uninstall the
plug-in by
going to control panel, add/remove programs and double clicking on
the Media
Player entry. A list of media player components will appear. Select
only the
Adaptec CD Burning Plug-In and click ok. This will uninstall the
plug-in. After
uninstalling the plug-in reboot and then reinstall our software.
---------------------------------------------
and again:
-------------------------------------------------

"After installing CD Maker 2000, my system locks up or will only
boot in Safe
Mode. "

Answer:
"This problem is a device driver conflict that can be corrected by
renaming the
files listed below. If you want to continue using EZ-CD/DirectCD
software NTI
also recommends you to reinstall the CD Maker 2000 software first,
then install
Adaptec?s software, after renaming the files. Rename all the other
files and
this should correct the issue. These files are used by Cequadrat:
Rename C2APIX.VXD
to C2APIX.OLD Rename C2REC.VXD to C2REC.OLD These files are used by
Adaptec:
Rename CDR4VSD.VXD to CDR4VSD.VX_ Rename CDRPWD.VXD to CDRPWD.VX_
Rename CDUDF.VXD
to CDUDF.VX_ Rename CDUDFRW.VXD to CDUDFRW.VX_ These files are used
by unknown:
Rename CD_READ.VXD to CD_READ.VXZ Rename DPUVSD.VXD to DPUVSD.VX_
These files
are used by a parallel port scanner (most cases): Rename DRVWCDB.VXD
to DRVWCDB.VX_
Rename DRVWPPQT.VXD to DRVWPPQT.VX_ Rename DRVWQ117.VXD to
DRVWQ117.VX_ These
files are used by unknown (LS-120 floppy drive?) Rename FD16_700.MPD
to FD16_700.MP_
These files are used by an Iomega tape drive or ZIP drive. Rename
IOMEGA.VXD to
IOMEGA.vx_ Rename REGTAPE.VXD to REGTAPE.BAK "

----------------------------------------------------------

Lot of work there.
