Hi,

I just began trying to work with Mozy. I restored a file
(my pst file) from the web after the download to be sure
that it worked - it did.

But I have another issue with Mozy - it creates a virtual
drive on your own hard drive. If you backup many gigs, then
a good part of your hard drive is taken with this virtual
drive, which will also be, I think, appropriately large.
Have you found this?

I am using Mozy for off site backup since my office is in my
house. My normal backup has been twofold: 1) I backup using
Dantz Retrospect nightly to a usb drive. 2) I back up about
bi-weekly, using a different usb drive, and creating an
entire image of the drive using Ghost.

I've not tried it yet, but I have some concern that the
Dantz backup will pick up the virtual drive. But I have
more concern that the Ghost drive image I create will pick
up the Mozy virtual drive as well. Have you had any
experience with this and what have you found?

Thanks.

Try doing a restore, you should be able to restore to a different location
than the original, then opening that file in Quicken. There are a variety
of methods for restoring files, check the Mozy website FAQ.

I'll check when I get home but I don't think this drive is on your system's
hard drive. I believe it is similar to a mapped drive, that is, it is
connecting to your account on Mozy's server to view the files--not taking up
space on your disk. I'll confirm when I get home to my system. If I'm
right, then Dantz won't back it up, or you should be able to exclude it.

It appears to me that the "virtual drive" of Mozy is nothing more than a
catalog of the files backed up. It doesn't appear to consume more than an
incidental amount of disk space. I emailed Mozy support to confirm.

Mozy support confirms that the virtual drive is simply a catalog of files
that were backed up. You can use it to do a restore from their servers, and
it doesn't take up more than an incidental amount of disk space on your
physical drive.

Thanks a lot for the info and the follow up. I see that
I've no need for concern about it.
