I had Ghost 9.0 installed on a WinXP SP2 machine. Was working fine until
recently. Started getting a Common Language Runtime error when starting the
console. So I figure it's time to upgrade to Ghost 12, maybe something with
..NET or a patch along the way screwed up Ghost 9...

Now that Ghost 12 is installed, the console greets me with "VProConsole has
encountered an error" and immediately quits. Wonderful. I can find
nothing via google, and of course Symantec support is completely useless,
not to mention they have the gall to charge me for support after my $69
purchase of new software.

Maybe I should revert all the way back to Ghost 2003 ?

Sadly Paul, you did upgrade from 2003.
At least it worked OK.
I went to Acronis TI after 2003, and I`ve never looked
back.
Symantec is a dirty word.

I vaguely remember Ghost 9 just being a repackaged version of 2003. Wasn't
100% sure about that though.

Don't know about that. But I do know when PowerQuest owned the product,
their support was fantastic (and free). Sure there were bugs but at least
they were responsive with regular patches and updates. Worked closely with
them when they released V2i Protector Server, which was (and still is) a
great product. Now that Ghost has morphed into a Symantec/Veritas
juggernaut, they could care less about input from the users. I can't think
of a worse combination - Symantec + Veritas. Ugh.
