Backup in Server 2003

| Hey there, not sure if this is the correct group but I just started
running backups on my windows 03 server and had a question about the
different types. Right now I am running a 'normal backup' and it
appends the backup each time. Does this mean that each week when the
server does a back up it only copy's over the data that has been
changed? Just wondering I don't want a full new backup each week just
because it would take hours over the network to transfer everything we
have. I am hoping what I have done is that I started one normal backup
and each time there is another backup it just moves over the new or
changed data.
Hope that made sense.
Thanks!

| Sounds like you need a Differential backup, that will capture the changes
since your last full backup.
You could also do incremenatal backups, but you run the risk of a restore
failure since you have to restore the Full plus all incrementals.
Not sure what tool you are using, but try to use something other than
NTBackup so it won't require you to install the OS in the event of a
restore. I use TrueImage Home and it works pretty well.

| You should check out www.ion-backup-software.com
Simple backup software and you'll be able to easily restore if you
ever need to.
