Storage for home networks
|

| Hi,
does anyone know an affordable solution (no NAS/SAN applicance for more than
2000 EUR/$) to provide storage in a home EtherNet network (e.g. via USB2 and
a Router) ?
Of course, for security reasons, the system must support RAID.
Is there anything available ?
Thanks...

| USB2 is bad for storage, use 1394/SBP2 if you need the adequate external
storage.
Also "routers" has nothing to do with USB2.
As about the box itself - why not use the Ethernet-attached SMB file server
with several IDE disks and a RAID controller like Promise or HighPoint? This
will cost < USD 1000.

| What does RAID have to do with security?

| The OP seems to use the word "security" instead of "safety".

Maybe. Depends on how much useable space is needed,
performance profile,
how pretty ya want it.
