Hi all!

This is my first post to that group, so I would like to say hallo to
everybody.

The situation is like this:
There are: EMC, Server (with Networker 7.1) and a PowerVault 132T. They are
connected to Fibre Switch. Is it possible to create client wchich would
provide direct backup EMC -> PV132?
I mean: EMC -> PV132 not EMC -> Server -> PV132.
I hope it is clear.

How can I create such client?

not really up on EMC at all but it sounds more like an architectural
issue you're dealing with. What I think you're asking for is
serverless backup.

Not something easy to come by; true serverless backup. Correct me if
I'm wrong but you want blocks of data to go from disk directly to tape
with no host in the middle?

Nothing that I know of does that yet with any reliability. I spoke
with a tape vendor a few years ago and they could get the data on tape
no problem, getting it back was a real challenge. The problem is no
reference.

Having said that, if you're only looking for full image restore only
(no single file or directory) I believe it's available. you might
want to ask your Legato rep if they have it, but I'm pretty sure
others do. It may also be hardware vendors that do it rather than
software.

Think you need the NDMP stuff from legato.
As the other post says , speak to your legato support/advisor.

Hi,

If Legato Networker is not a must, then you can ask EMC about EDM
SymmPath backup. But you will need another EDM server to handle that and
it is not cheap.
