We have been using AIT 2 and 3 drives for about 2 years now and have
had many failures. We use libraries from Cybernetics and more
recently ADIC. Our ADIC Scaler 100 is less than three months old and
we have already replaced four drives. We have four Cybernetic two
drive/30 tape libraries and none of them have lasted a full year
without at least one drive being replaced.

We do write quite a bit of data to them...probably running all our
drives 8-16 hours per day. However we follow the manufacturers
recommended cleaning cycle and have very few tape errors. Our
libraries live in environmentally controlled clean rooms ~65 F and 30%
humidity. Their power is also protected and conditioned.

I don't see a lot of postings about AIT technology being bad, and the
performance is nice when it works. Has anyone else experienced such a
high failure rate with this technology? Any hints?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and ideas...
