| Hi All
I am in the process of completely reconfiguring the companies SAN having
convinced them that there current configuration is very poor.
We have 2xLSI E2400's split across 2 sites 20 metres apart, I want to
reconfigure one half of this setup. Jumping straight into the issue, there
is no zoning going on in this setup (SQL CLUSTER - WIN, MAIL SYSTEM -
SUN/SOLARIS, DB APP - SUN/SOLARIS), no port zoning and no WWN zoning either.
The side I want to strip down completely and reconfigure is also the mirror
of the the other, I have moved all services that were using this side of the
SAN to the opposite ready for reconfig, however I am left with a mail system
that has no backup that I need to shift over to the other SAN also but I
cannot do this because we are currently up to our maximum number of hosts on
the other SAN (4/4).
So, what I want to do is remove one of the existing hosts on the live SAN
(the side that I am moving all services to) and add in a host for the mail
system.
Currently we have 2 Sun Fire 3800's that power the DB app, 1 is at site 1
and the other at site 2 they can both see each others volumes across both
arrays as they each use VxVM to mirror date across both sites for failover,
I have disabled both sides mirroring and disassociated the plexes (to free
up the disk pack that I want to reconfigure) and I have also taken down one
SF3800 at site 1 where I want to do the reconfig, now what I want to do is
REMOVE the host identifier on SANSHARE on the live disk pack that enables
the SF3800 host at site 1 to mirror data to it but I am slightly worried:
1. In order for both SF3800 hosts to see each others volumes (for mirroring
and fail over) there is no zoning - volumes LUNs have been mapped at HOST
GROUP level and NOT at HOST level (in order for both hosts to see the
volumes), now if I delete one of these HOST IDs (for the SF3800 I have taken
down) is it possible that the LIVE SF3800 could also be using the same host
identifier (HBA WWN) path to the volume as is defined in the HOST ID I just
deleted? (because the volumes have been LUN mapped at HOST GROUP level and
NOT HOST)????
My solution was to unmount all volumes on the LIVE system, delete the LUN
mappings on the HOST GROUP and then re-insert them into the HOST ID for the
LIVE SYSTEM directly so they are specifically mapped to that system as
opposed to the whole group, but with the same LUN numbers as when they were
in the host group? Then re-mount them in VxVM and everything should be
same?? Having done this, the live SF will now no longer be able to take the
same path as is defined in the HOST ID I want to delete (WWN).
Is this right? Can I then blow away the HOST ID for the non-live system
without it hindering the live system?
Hope this is not too confusing, thanks!!!
