Hi,

In doing some digging around, it turns out that we should be able to use
a "flash disk drive" (these are flash memory with an IDE interface in
2.5" form factor) in the one remaining free IDE sockets on the blade.

The blades actually have 2 IDE sockets (for 2.5" IDE drives), but one of
these gets "obstructed" because of a fibre-channel adapter/HBA that
needs to be used to connect to the SAN.

So I'm thinking that if install a flash disk drive onto the blade's
remaining IDE socket, then we can image an OS image onto the flash disk
drive, and we can then boot off the image on the flash disk drive
instead of booting off of the SAN.

We'd probably still go to the SAN for swap disk, if needed, since these
flash devices have a limited number of times you can write to them.

Has anyone tried this before?

Thoughts/comments?

Thanks,
Jim
