Hello,

We would like to increase the remote replication bandwidth between our
Symmetrix 8000 boxes with additional ESCON lines but we are running
out of card slots in our Symmetrix 8830.

Can someone tell me if there are ESCON cards available with 4 or more
ports?

Thank you,
Peter

Hi Peter... yes, there are 4 port ESCON EA cards for the Symm 5.5.
However, my notes say that only 2 ports can be concurrently active,
which is kinda limiting...

Worth checking with your EMC SE to see if they have fixed this.

Hi Peter,

We have two 4 port EA's in our 8730 with all eight paths active. That is to
a mainframe though with all devices mapped to all ports. What is your
current RDF infrastructure? dark-fibre, managed service etc?

Have you considered ISLing your RDF traffic using a FA port (configured as
RA) instead? We've been runing that configuration very successfully for the
past couple of years.

Like I mentioned earlier, depending on your link.

Any more questions just ask.

Brian.
