I am investigating hardware compression options in a disk-to-disk
backup environment. Does anyone know of any existing solutions which
provide hardware compression with support for disk-to-disk backups on a
Windows 2003 Server running Veritas Backup Exec?

I have only found what appears to be a preliminary product from
IndraNetworks which currently has drivers for Linux but no Windows
support.

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks.

Check out diligent (www.diligent.com). Their Protectier VT product is
essentially backup to disk, but in a unique way. They do data compression by
identifying identical data sections across all data that is stored on disk,
not just a small buffer. That way they claim to be able to get incredible
storage compression rates. It's also a virtual tape solution that allows you
to use your existing backup software, even if it has no disk-to-disk
functionality.

Disclaimer: I have not used the product, I have only received their
marketing 'shower'... Their story sounds good and viable, but I have no
hands-on experience yet...

If you have deep pockets, Quantum should have HW compression on DX30-100
