Author Help in troubleshooting connection of Emulex HBAs to an SGI TP9500

Hello all,

we are running an IBM p690 with AIX 5.2 ML 06 and I have attached an SGI
TP9500 to its two Emulex HBAs (6239). The TP9500 is an Engenio 5884 based
array similar to IBM's FAStT900 (as I understand it). Initially, the AIX
system would only see the exported LUNs as "FC Disk Other", without any
native fail-over.

I then did add the following file to AIX's ODM by

% odmadd objet-tp9500_ibm-dac

% cat objet-tp9500_ibm-dac
PdAt:
uniquetype = "array/fcp/ibm-dac"
attribute = "model_name"
deflt = "TP9500 "
values = ""
width = ""
type = "R"
generic = ""
rep = "s"
nls_index = 0

and then I did a
% cfgmgr -v fcs0
% cfgmgr -v fcs1

which generated dac0, 1, 2, 3 devices but no dar ones.

I then did a
% cfgmgr -v
which indeed generated dar0 and dar1 but now the newly discovered LUNs appear
as 'Defined' and not 'Available':

hdisk16 Available 2v-08-01 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive
hdisk17 Defined 2v-08-01 fcparray Disk Array Device
hdisk18 Available 3e-08-01 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive
hdisk19 Defined 2v-08-01 fcparray Disk Array Device
hdisk20 Available 2v-08-01 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive
hdisk21 Available 3e-08-01 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive
hdisk22 Defined 3e-08-01 fcparray Disk Array Device
hdisk23 Defined 3e-08-01 fcparray Disk Array Device

Note that hdisk16, 18, 20 and 21 are LUNs that are in use in 2 volume
groups since some time ago.

Looking at the output of the 'cfgmgr -v' command for hdisk17, 19, 22 and 23, I
noticed:

================================== >>>

================================== >>>

What is going wrong here? Is anything else needed to be added to the ODM of
the AIX system? Any idea or hint of the problem would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
