Author Reading Tapes that were written with Tapeware?

Hello,

We have a whole bunch of tapes (LTO I) that were written with Tapeware
(6.2). The drive that was used died and hence now we are stuck with a new
drive that Tapeware does not seem to work well with (neither our
antiquated version nor the latest trial versions). Tapeware tech suport
is pretty much useless beyond telling us that it is a secret format.
Anyone knows any freeware/shareware or reasonable software that could
read tapes created with Tapeware? Is there a way to read everything on a
tape byte-by-byte and somehow recreate?

Thanks,

Turgut
