Hi, all...

Can anybody tell me where to find the working of SAN details and
the complete functional details of the devices that are involved in it.

I mean the working of SAN and the complete detail of
how a client request server for a data --- then how server processes it
--- and how multipath details are handled in server --- and how it
communicates with the controllers -- and how controllers fetch for the
particular data from the collection of disks.

I searched it in google but I dint get.

Thanks.

You can't have looked too hard...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storage_area_network

And if you really, really meant what you wrote about understanding how
a client requests data from a server, you can read about the Fibre
Channel Protocol here:

http://www.t10.org/drafts.htm#fcp-

This links to a draft of the ANSI FCP standard... but it's as near to
the standard as makes no different for the OP and hey, it's free.
There are updates to this also (FCP-2, 3 and 4). If you want or need
the actual ANSI standard docs they are available to buy.

Thanks, HVB

The details you have sent, cover the topic in depth.
I think I dint mention my doubt properly.
I need little abstract view of the things, like

How the client requests a server, and when server gets request from
multiple clients
then how it handles it. How the server communicates to the controller
and how the controller gets data from the disks. And what are the
softwares involved in this etc...
If all this is explained pictorially then it would be great help. If
you know any books on this please suggest. I need the things to be
explained in programmers view.

Thanks again.

I would recommend checking out some of the tutorials at
http://www.techtionary.com for a basic view for what you are asking.

Brocade has an excellent web-based training course on Fibre Channel
that's FREE.

See

for details.
