Hi to all...
I've bought an used LTO HP Ultrium 1, and i want to know how much it
was used, i've tryied with the hp l&tt utility (versions 3.5 SR4 e
4.4), but it doesn't say me nothing about the usage.
If i well remember with an older version of the l&tt i was able to
read that data (with a dds drive), but i cannot find that version.
Soemone know an utility (or the right l&tt version) that i can use to
read this counters?
Thanks!!

The HP LTO-1 SCSI reference does not seem to list any log sense pages that
support this, it may not be supported at all.

But now with the oldest L&TT software that i have (3.5 sr4), i'm not
able to see also the 'pulled time' of the same dat that i've tested
some time ago...
I'm not able to identify why hp have removed that info...

Sometimes vendors remove information that can be used against them in
competative situations or where they run a liability risk. Try to get a SCSI
reference for the drive you are interested in.

I have a Sony DDS manual that shows Log Sense page 33h as Sony unique drive
usage information. Many drives have similar pages, but not all are
documented.

I've discovered that this is a dell unit, and i've downloaded the
software (that is the same as the hp, but older) and this are the
result:
Power on hours: 196147
Tape pulling: 99hr
Meters pulled: 680232m
number of lod/unload: 217
head clean operation: 0
MR head A resistances: 73 72 70 69 70 68 69 69 ohm
MR head B resistances: 62 63 65 65 66 68 71 72 ohm

How this values are???
I've made a good deal or it's at it's end of life?
I've tryied it, and don't do more than 1 mb/s of wrting speed... not
seem that good...

Another thing to note is that the drive has 60'000 'stop and go'
during writing...

If it really is an hour counter then the unit would have been switched on
for 22 years, which is impossible. That would make all other values
unreliable as well.

I suspect the power-on hours counter is actually minutes, which would mean
it's only been used for two months or so. The 99 hours of tape pulling and
load/unload count of 217 would be normal usage during such timeframe. Looks
to me like you got a good deal. But you do want to run a cleaning tape
through the unit, no-one has done that sofar ;-)

I've foun a diverse utility (old hp l%tt ver 2.7) that say me the
correct usage of the drive...
The values are:[vbcol=seagreen]

That seem more realistic, so the 100 euros that i've spent for the
drive ore well spent :-)
The only thing, is that the cartidges that it has sent me with the
drive are written at the bast more that 75 times (the tool say me also
this!), so i think that i need them new :-)
Thanks for the great help!

LTO tapes can be used a lot longer than 75 times, if the tape works well
then you can continue to use it. There should be no problem using it 500
times or so.

Congratulations, sounds like you got a great deal ;-)

Ebay rulez! :-)
But, why sometimes if i put in a cartidge (the lower count is 75) it
read a little bit, then eject the tape?
Can be only the head dirt because it has not taken any clening tape?
I was assiming that this was normal because the taper ca be old, but
you say that this type of cartidges must last longer...
At now, i've the 'clean' led flashing...I'm waiting the end of an
auction for a clean tape...

For now i've removed the chip from the cleaning cartidge that i own
(tha tis expired), so the drive has tryied to read it, and it's
cleaned...
Now the drive write up to 30 mb/s 2:1 compression and read any tape...
Thanks for the help, this drive compared to a dds is really better!
