| Mid September I bought the then current set of Sarge CDs. I had a
problem installing Debian on one PC, so I tryed the install another PC
to isolate the problem. On the second computer, Debian installed
perfectly (single boot). I returned to the first PC and again tried
the install (for a dual-boot system), but I still get this error in
the "install base system" process: "Debootstrap Error. Couldn't
download apt-utils". Can you tell me what's going wrong and how I fix
it?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Trish
P.S. Just previously on the latter PC, I had a good dual boot system
of Win98 and MEPIS where MEPIS was occupying the hard drive I now want
to install Debian on.

Have you set up your bootloader properly on the dual boot system ?

Thanks a lot for your reply, Madhusudan, but the installer has not yet
given me the opportunity to set up the boot loader. I think that comes
after the point of my failure, right?

I apologize for the pointless response. I must have been thinking of a few
other things
Could you reproduce the messages before you get this error message ? My
hunch is that your download path is somehow not set correctly. Since you
are installing from a local CD drive (not the path I took when I installed
Sarge, but it ought to work), networking is probably not the cause of your
troubles.

That error implies a network (internet?) install. Do you know if you had a
good connection?

Thanks a lot for your replies. In both the case that worked and the
one that failed, I was installing directly from CDs on the local PC.
I'd really appreciate any other ideas you may have, because I'm
reallyh at a standstill. &:-(
