| Hi,
Well after several days of frustrating failed attempts at getting the
integrated Intel Pro/100 NIC to work, recompiling the kernel several
times and reinstalling the entire OS twice, and STILL no luck, I gave up
hope using that card.
So I grabbed another NIC from an older computer, which is a Realtek
8029. Sure enough it recognizes it, but still the network is not
working. ifconfig shows eth0 with the proper entries (i.e. gateway,
netmask and IP address). I can ping localhost as well as my own IP
address. I'm not 100% sure what the route table should look like, but
right now it looks like this:
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Iface
24.83.192.0 * 255.255.252.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
default 24.83.192.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0
Is it possible the NIC is bad, or is that not possible since I can ping
my own IP? I tried a few different cables so I've verified its not
that. Any other ideas? Please, any help or suggestions would be most
appreciatd.

How do you initialize the card, dhcp or static?
What is the card not doing that you think it should be doing?
