Hello!
well ive been using ubuntu and im very happy with it, since its my
first Linux... only sound doesnt work
the funny thing is i do << lspci >> and i get this:

0000:00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
Subsystem: Unknown device 1849:9761
Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR-
Interrupt: pin C routed to IRQ 22
Region 0: I/O ports at c800 [size=256]
Capabilities: [c0] Power Management version 2
Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1+ D2+ AuxCurrent=0mA
PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-)
Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-

does this means sound has been detected?
i checked the alsamixer and turned everything on, volume, etc, but
sound still doesnt work, i checked for emu10k1 installed in kernell
with modprobe and its all there.

i also got hwdata but i dunno how to use it, i also installed discover
and during the instalation it says sound was detected but no luck,
still no sound.
what else can i do?
how do i use hwdata or discover? (didnt find much info on this on the
internet)
is there a conflict because hwdata and discover are installed both in
my machine?
help please!
Ciao!
Ceci.

Does your sound work when you are logged in as root?
