| Hi ng,
I have a really serious problem: When starting my Debian, the login-mask
appears, as normally. When entering my password and hitting enter, the
mask disappears (as usually) and then a white box appears, which
contains the following text:
"Xsession: warning: unable to write to ; X session may exit with an error"
The only option to chose is to click the "okay"-Button and then the
login-mask again appears.
I checked the message on the internet and only found this problem
occuring when the root filesystem is full.
In my case, I have more than 500MB of space left on /
I first experienced problems a few minutes before, when launching
programs that did not show up, so I started them via the command line
and everytime it said, it could not connect to :0, so I rebooted and now
I cannot even log in.
Can someone please help me?

Check your log files - X normally creates /var/log/XFree86.0.log and the
file /home/your_login/.xsession-errors. There may be something in them
which indicates what the error may be.

Also check that there is enough space left on /tmp if you mount that as
a separate partition, as well as your /home partition.

Is $DISPLAY set in the environment when using the command line? What is
the exact error message?

If you can't login via X presumably you are still able to login by
switching to another virtual terminal.

Liberty don't work as good in practice as it does in speeches.
