I am trying to get sound working on my 7400 armada running Debian
2.6.7. So I do a
modprobe snd-es1688 port=0x220 irq=5 dma8=1

and get:
WARNING: Error inserting snd
(/lib/modules/2.6.7/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko): Input/output error
FATAL: Error inserting snd_es1688
(/lib/modules/2.6.7/kernel/sound/isa/es1688/snd-es1688.ko): No such
device

and dmesg says:
unable to register native major device number 116
es1688: can't grab port 0x224
ESS AudioDrive ES1688 soundcard not found or device busy

what is 'major device number 116'?
I assume that is what causes the input/output error in snd.ko, and so
the next 'No such device'
and '...not found or device..'

So, how do I get it registered?
thanks
Ed
