Hi!

Finally I decided to install Debian Linux on my system and deleted Windows
where I use just Yahoo Messenger for a voice talk. I have on computer also
SuSE Linux 9.2. I have dual boot (grub).
/dev/hda1 Windows
/dev/hda3 SuSE ext3
/dev/hda2 swap

I want to format Windows partion and instal Debian on it. Is it possible
that Debian use same swap partion as SuSE? How is about grub?

I downloaded Debian Sarge DVD iso.

Thanks,

Mitja

Yes.

There are several ways. One way: when installing Debian, tell it to
install the boot loader to hda1 (the Debian partition). Configure your
SuSE boot loader and add that partition, e.g. add this to the SuSE grun
configuration:

title Debian Sarge
root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

I assume the SuSE boot loader in installed in the MBR. When selecting
Debian, the Debian boot manager will be loaded. You can also use one
boot loader directly for both systems. Check the group archive of
comp.os.linux.* at groups.google.com for details.

Thank you. I hope that will be O.K.
One question more: does Debian use XFree 4.4.0? I saw on the Debian site
XFree 4.3...

Because of the license issues Debian did not switch to XFree 4.4, and
will probably move to X.org after Sarge has been released. However, as
far as I know, the XFree 4.3 packages are heavily patched and include
code that was not part of the original 4.3 release. For details, go to
packages.debian.org, you can find the Debian changelog files for the
XFree packages there.
