Linux Debian support - Can anyone help with mwaved

Can anyone help with mwaved

I have an old IBM 600e.

I installed the Debian mwavem package but the module will not load. Dmsg
gives all sorts of strange errors:
DSP IRQ line is 0
UART IRQ line is 0
Failed to calculate resources

Anyone have any idea what is not configured correctly? I'm running Mepis 3.3

Normally I use DSL but I want this modem to work just in case I'm on the
road and there is no broadband. When I had Slackware on this laptop mwavemd
worked fine.
